Need

Need: absorb the increase in e-commerce orders while guaranteeing customer satisfaction

Carrefour's existing IT and logistics systems, based on an on-premise WMS solution, had reached their limits in terms of capacity and flexibility: beyond a certain threshold, the accuracy and speed of preparations were decreasing, negatively impacting customer satisfaction. To remedy this, Carrefour needed to improve the punctuality of shipments, the rate of complete orders before and after substitution, and productivity (measured by picking speed).

Challenges

Challenges: a high volume of orders handled by stores and warehouses with specific operating procedures

The company was looking for a technological platform with unlimited capacity, capable of adapting to the operational processes in place: an agile WMS, enabling fast and accurate order preparation, capable of integrating the business rules of warehouses and stores. There were many challenges: guaranteeing customer satisfaction to avoid any loss of market share, abandoning traditional on-premise systems in favor of a tailor-made cloud solution, and ensuring rapid, scalable deployment on a national scale.

Solution

Solution: a high-performance WMS, adaptable to different workflows, to optimize order preparation

Different workflows are managed by the Warehouse Management System for standard products (80% of items ordered), missing products, the breakdown of these missing products before delivery, bulky products, processables (butchery, fishmongery) and bakery products. The pickers follow multi-zone picking circuits, tailor-made for each store, and use Zebra devices to ensure efficiency and precision. Thanks to highly granular role management, they benefit from an experience tailored to their responsibilities. The WMS also manages a sophisticated replenishment system, combining several methods.

Since this transformation, Carrefour Spain has seen a clear increase in its NPS score, and has greatly improved its productivity. The company is now in a position to offer the best e-commerce offering on the market.
